THE WHITE CLIFFS

Our last play in November 2007 was well-received by the audience even though, or maybe because, it was very different from our usual productions. A drama called The White Cliffs by Bettine Manktelow it was set in 1948 and centred on the effects of the recent world war on a land-lady and a repertory company. There was a strong cast, with one newcomer, and together with a good set and superb costumes the play presented an evening to remember.

APRIL 27th - 29th 2005
The plot of this hilarious comedy farce centres around a couple called
Bernard & Jacqueline. Bernard has invited his mistress Suzanne to
come and
stay for the weekend along with his best mate Robert as an alibi, as
his
wife Jacqueline is going away to her mother's. He has it so well planned
he
has even hired a cook for the occasion. Unbeknown to him, his mate Robert
has been having an affair with his wife & Robert has no idea that
he has
been invited for the weekend as an alibi for Bernard's affair. When
Jacqueline's weekend away is cancelled at short notice this leads to
a
hilarious sequence of events, mistaken identities and mayhem.
We were
delighted with the response we received about this play which was
described as very funny, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

THE
WOMAN UPSTAIRS
(our first production)
November 1962
Excerpt
from newspaper cutting for Horsford Players first production.
Printed in The Journal 18.1.63
"There
was a full house for the Horsford Players' first production,
"The Woman Upstairs," at the Village Hall on Thursday week.
Considering that none of the players had had any previous
stage experience the standard reached was remarkably high.
It was a clear indication of the efforts the players had put into rehearsing
for the production, turning out night after night in wintry weather."
